Peter D. Gehres of Hilliard, Ohio was named the 2010 Michigan Auctioneer Champion (MAC) in Kalamazoo, Michigan on January 27, 2010. Gehres won in a field of 22 other auctioneers from three states. This year’s contest judges included Leroy Van Dyke, recognized as the world’s most famous auctioneer and the incoming president of the National Auctioneers Association, B. Mark Rogers. The MAC consists of two rounds of bid calling and series of questions. Contestants are judged on bid calling skill, salesmanship, and presence.
This was the second auctioneering (bid calling) contest that Gehres has won, taking the Ohio Junior Division in January 2006. Gehres has competed previously in the MAC as well as the Ohio Bid Calling and the International Auctioneer Championship (IAC). Gehres will represent Michigan in the IAC this July in Greensboro, North Carolina.
Gehres is an auctioneer, Realtor and appraiser with United Country/Gryphon Realty & Auction Group based in Columbus, Ohio. He also is a contract auctioneer for some of the Midwest’s finest auctioneers. He conducts benefit auctions for organizations large and small. He is also a professional speaker and auction educator who teaches at The Ohio Auction School and Reppert School of Auctioneering and operates Auctions on Track, an auction education, leadership and motivation company. Gehres is also the Executive Director of TheAuctioneerChannel.com, a video sharing and networking community for the auction industry.
